This year, The Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem is especially grateful for the continuing support of our community. Operating costs are higher than ever, and the needs of the children who live in Bethlehem are the greatest we have seen in the 80 years we have been open. You can meet some of the young people who are Bethlehem Club members at our annual Steak & Burger Dinner on March 8, 2010, at Moravian College at the Haupert Union Building.

At the event, we invite you to join us in honoring Frank Banko, a longtime supporter who continues to contribute to the programs that serve our members. We will also be joined by Napoleon McCallum, former LA Raiders running back and US Naval Academy graduate, who is now Director of Community Development for the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

The Steak & Burger Dinner is a chance to show the young members of the Club how much we care, and that we fully support their efforts to become proud citizens of this community. I guarantee that you will leave the event feeling inspired and touched by what you hear. The funds raised at this event will continue to help us serve the children in Bethlehem.

Since 1930 thousands of Bethlehem children ages 6 - 18 have benefited from our programs. Our club alumni have gone on to lead productive and successful lives, many as professionals, managers, proprietors or skilled workers. We are part of a nationwide affiliation of local, autonomous organizations of Boys & Girls Clubs serving girls and boys of every race, economic level, religion and ethnic culture: to help them develop the qualities to become responsible citizens and community leaders.

Some people were skeptical when J. W. “Bill” Brakebill proposed a fundraising event where adults paid to eat hamburgers while dining with Memphis Boys & Girls Club members who eat steaks! The idea caught on, and now Steak & Burger Dinners are held by Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. Since 1992, our Bethlehem Club members have enjoyed great steaks. Between bites, they have told our sponsors about all the great things that happen every day at the clubs.

Those who have attended Steak & Burger Dinners have literally watched these young people become productive, responsible and caring citizens in their community. Generous supporters like you recognize that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bethlehem are an investment in our future by purchasing burgers for themselves, and treating our Club members to steaks.
